3. Post race party at Los Galanes in Mexican-town – blue margaritas and great food, need I say more. Starts about ½ hour after the last race, but feel free to head over anytime.

2. CX Back-To-Back Weekends – For those in SE Michigan, if you’re racing the Tailwind series, you better get in at least one back-to-back weekend before the Vets Park weekend. Race Mad Anthony on Saturday and then race Lower Huron on Sunday. It will make you stronger and ready for Vets or event ICEMAN!

1. The FORT – this ain’t gonna be your usual CX race in the local park. The race will take place inside and around a de-commissoned Army fort that was built in 1845. When the course says “moat road” that truly is an old moat! It’s drained and now.

Who's responsible for getting bikes down at the Fort? A. BeatTheTrain!

From May to October BTT rides leave the parking lot of Fort Wayne for a 30 mile trip through downtown Detroit. These rides alone have probably exposed literally 100's of cyclists to the accessible nature of riding in the city. They've also probably given $1,000's of new business to the restaurants of Mexican-town as hungry cyclists chow down post-ride!!! :)

What is BeatTheTrain? Well to put it into the words of BTT himself, it's:

We are mainly a tribute to normal folks who refuse to be a slave to public transportation, high insurance rates, outrageous fuel prices and of course parking charges.
These people are quietly doing all of us a huge favor simply by using their own God given power to get to where they are going.

The phrase "Beat the Train" is not a rebellion against any Rail company,
It's a call to arms. It's an anthem. It's a motivational consciousness. When you say you have to "Beat the Train", this means you don't want to be late. You have to beat traffic or get to the other side of the tracks before its too late.

I guess you could say, "Beat the Car" or "Beat the Bus" even "Beat the Cab". If you get an early enough start you can beat any other mode of transportation out there. Hate getting caught in traffic? Getting caught on the wrong side of the tracks can cost you valuable time.
Finally "Beat the Train" means simply, get off your butt! Stop making excuses. Get an early start. Find a way to avoid fossil fuels as much as possible. Even if you only ride to work on casual Friday, for that special day you are doing your best to "Beat the train" and for that we thank you and welcome you to this new mindset that is taking over our area.

A. Although we cannot make anyone wear a helmet, we strongly encourage you to do so. We can't stress enough about safety and responsibility. Detroit can be a very aggressive city, especially for anyone on bike. Helmets can prevent serious head injuries and save lives.

Q. Who would want to ride in Detroit?

A. Anyone who wants to see and feel the real atmosphere of Detroit. Detroit is a vibrant, diverse, and cultural city on the go. It has a lot to offer, from its historical architecture to its industrial legacy. You'll get a real sense of its wonder from a biking point of view.

Official time is 3pm-6pm, but feel free to head over there anytime after your race for some of the best food in Mexican town. If you're racing again on Sunday (Oct 18) at Lower Huron (aka, THE GRINDER), you'll want to start your carbo-loading with their fantastic dishes!!!

Fort Wayne neighborhood

If you're not familiar with the Fort Wayne (Detroit) area or have never been down there, you'll find it very interesting.

One of the most prominent landmarks is the old Michigan Central Station. It's a beautiful old building that sit abandoned and towers over this section of Detroit like a ghost.

Get ready to mix history and racing with the Mad Anthony Cyclocross race at historic Fort Wayne in SE Detroit. The fort was built in 1845 and is a treasure trove of history. Come check it out and afterward enjoy a great post-race meal at Los Galanes restaurant in Mexican town.

This is truly a race experience you CANNOT MISS!!!!!

More about the fort:

In 1840, at the point on the Detroit River closest to British Canada, the United States Army began surveying local farms for the placement of new artillery post. A five point star fort was slated to have the most up to date cannon capable of firing on the Canadian shore as well as ships sailing the river.

This new fort was Detroit’s third, the first built by the Americans. In 1701, shortly after Cadillac landed, the French began building Fort Detroit, which was surrendered to the British in 1760 during the French and Indian War. The British built a new fort several years later and name it Fort Lernoult, which they occupied until 1796 when the United States took over Detroit and renamed the battlement Fort Shelby.

Following the War of 1812, Fort Shelby fell into disrepair while the threat of a territorial war still loomed with British Canada. As tensions increased along the Northern border defense that includes new forts from the east coast to the Minnesota Territory. The Detroit fort would be named for General Anthony Wayne whose defeat of the British at the Fallen Timbers in 1796 resulted in the United States occupation of the Northwest Territories.
